Long Haul and Regional Driving: What to Expect

Drivers at the company work in different patterns. Long haul drivers travel across Italy and into other European countries, spend nights away from base and earn more through kilometer bonuses and daily meal allowances. Regional drivers cover shorter routes and return home more often, which suits drivers who prefer a regular family routine. Both patterns require strict respect for EU driving and rest time rules, which the company plans into its schedules. During your interview, ask clearly which pattern is being offered to you, how nights away are counted, and how bonuses are calculated, so that your monthly income is clear before you sign the contract.

Tips for Applicants

  • Put your licence class and CQC at the very top of your CV. For a transport company, this is the first thing they check.
  • Mention the truck brands and trailer types you have driven, and any refrigerated, tanker or flatbed experience.
  • If you have driven in Europe before, name the countries and routes, because international experience is valuable here.
  • Basic Italian is required for dispatcher communication. If you are learning Italian, mention your current level honestly.
  • Apply with complete documents in one email. Incomplete applications are usually ignored in transport hiring.
  • Never pay for a promised licence conversion or job offer. Genuine employers do not charge drivers for hiring.
